For my 1st year Fine art Sculpture project, I had to create a sculpture from recordings of different sounds of our choice, whether the sounds themselves be the sculpture or whether it was something physical. The sounds I recorded where: Rolling dice, spoken words, charcoal on paper and drumming. I found it pretty difficult to get started, so I decided to look at Alvin Lucier, a sound artist. I found his work very intriguing as he recorded himself narrating a text into a room and the new recording is then played back and re-recorded, and this process is repeated until he found the resonance of the room.

Taking inspiration from Alvin Lucier's 'I Am Sitting in a Room' I decided that I would use the spoken words I recorded as my starting point, I attempted to record the song at different distances, increasing the distance by 10 feet each time I recorded it, I made sure to keep the volume and the speaker at a constant. After doing this experiment, I noticed that the microphone was picking up other details other than the spoken words when I was moving further away, such as traffic and general ambient noises.
