For my 1st year Fine art 15 week Self Directed project, I researched into the work of artist Erin Tucker as she creates figurative sculptures using mixed media such as paper mache, thread, water colour etc. I was intrigued with her work 'Fragile and Frayed'', I like this piece in particular because I find the materials she has used interesting like using coffee to help stain the tissue paper, I also like how she managed to suspend her sculptures in the air. The sculptures are worn and held together by thread, I would like to replicate this in my own work to see how she managed to keep the strength of the sculpture by using such weak materials.
Researching further into her work, I found some mono-type prints of the human anatomy, she has used fleshy watercolour tones and charcoal to create wonderful prints. I would like to experiment with screen printing with an image and using my own variations of skin tones as a background or create collages by combining multiple medias.
