An artist that I looked at for my Sculpture project was Andrea Russo, another artist who specializes in paper folding. I was very fascinated by her artwork, as the patterns she created with the paper were very complex and complicated. I also enjoyed the reiteration of the design and the way she has used different materials to create textures and surfaces.
Taking influence from her work, I tried to create more difficult patterns to not much success, but in this process I found that simplicity wasn’t a bad thing, I created long strips of the same pattern and joined them together in different variations. This study made me think about how I should use the simple patterns that I could create to make interesting and unique surfaces, I experimented on a larger scale filling an a3 sized paper with interlocking patterns which later developed into my final piece.
