Vincent Van Gogh - Self Portrait1889

The final artist that I looked at for my Painting project was Vincent Van Gogh, I chose to research him for my Private interior, in particular his oil paintings on canvas of his self portraits. I was fascinated with how Vincent Van Gogh painted especially in the ways he applied his paint to the canvas and the colours that he used, I find his paintings to be a little uneasy to look at as the backgrounds are very bold with vivid patterns making it feel unsettling.

I decided for my Private interior to be a self portrait, using myself as the muse for my painting. I wanted the painting to reflect the way that I am and how I was feeling at the time of painting. The paintings focused on the silhouette of my self portrait, I decided that I would create a narrative to my final piece, I wanted everything within the silhouette to be things I feel safe doing, so I used colours that I was comfortable using and created a intricate line drawing and everything on the outside were things I find difficult such as using bold, vibrant colours and spontaneity.
