For my 1st year Fine art 15 week project, whilst I was researching into Erin Tucker, this artist was suggested to me, I looked further into her work and it really caught my interest. Vally Nomidou makes vulnerable and anonymous people from paper mache and other materials such as thread, card board and plaster. I found her sculptures interesting as her work has a deeper meaning behind them, she tries to express how ‘Fragility is the way women artists insisted to present as a plastic value in the 20th century’.
After researching this artist, I would like to add a narrative to my project and experiment with materials that Vally has used, like trying to use plaster to make casts which then can be used to create other sculptures from. I would also like to use thread to create art work that look like they have been stitched back together as if they had a suffered a wound.
