After having several tutorials with Virginia in the first couple of weeks, we had talked about my body of work and how things were progressing, I was asked if I had looked at any references yet to help with my research, Julian Meredith was brought up in the conversation of artists to look at.
Julian Meredith is a British artist who primarily is a printmaker and has had many exhibitions in the north east, his work consists of large scale wood prints. His artwork mostly looks at fish, birds, animals, insects and the main subject is their relationship to the environment and to us. Some of his work is constructed and drawn on the landscape.
I took an interest in his Residences collection; this collection has many woodcuts which I found particularly interesting. I watched several videos on the processes he does to create his artwork. After researching his artwork and the processes it made me want to do much larger pieces and use whatever wood I could get my hands on, misshapen, warped or twisted as long as I could take the grain from the wood.
