Semester Two Intentions
For Semester 2 I plan on continuing my current project, however my project has slightly evolved and changed since writing my assessment post. For semester One my work primarily worked with easily accessible wood like chipboard or wood from pallets, clear epoxy resin and I had dabbled in plaster but only briefly, my artwork was propped up against a wall or was mounted permanently in my designated space. As much as I feel my artwork was successful, you could only view it from one angle and that was from the front, my work was very much one dimensional.
For Semester Two I still want to test out the relationship between materials in a Minimalistic approach however I want to move away from having my artwork on the wall, I think I want to make more 3D, free standing structures whether that being directly on the floor or on top of a plinth so that the audience can move around it and view it from all sides, looking above it and inside of the sculpture itself. I would also like to test with scale, creating "large scale" pieces by my standards which will dominate the space.
I also want to test out placing my sculptures in different locations, I predominately make my work within the studio and that's where my work is normally shown, I would like to see what happens if I were to place it outside, in a gallery room or a white cube space whether it would add something to the artwork. Possibly, a better quality or make it more thought provoking, it might flare up more conversations if it was in a place you wouldn't expect it, this is something I will need to experiment around with, for now it is just an idea.
I would also like to improve on my knowledge about Minimalism and research which artist are involved within the "movement" and more contemporary artists so that I will have a greater understanding of why I am doing what I am doing, and I will be able to talk about contexts in relationship to my work. I think if I do this, it will vastly help my work and will help me to achieve a higher grade.
